We are a team that is dedicated to designing in layers. While every layer may be simple, collaboratively it makes a big impact.

Throughout the coming months we will be touching on the layers that we bring into every room. Each post we will address a new layer, explain the importance of it and give you food for thought on how to design that specific layer. We are excited to share different aspects of our design process.

Today we are starting with the shell of a room. The shell is where you lay the foundation of the space - beautiful millwork, windows, great texture on the walls - this is called interior architecture. If the shell of your room needs to be painted, paint it. If you have an eye sore in the room, let's remove it or hide it.  We know it is so easy to go straight to the furniture . . .  Restrain just a few moments before picking out the furniture and see if the interior architecture of a space can be enhanced.

One of the best and most cost effective ways to accomplish interior architecture is through millwork. Millwork is simply woodwork - doors, trim, crown molding, wood paneling, mantel, etc. This design element not only adds substance to the room, it can often increase the value of your home. The photo above is one of our favorite projects - the millwork is clean and minimal, yet adds so much dimension to the space.

Being intentional with the interior architecture allows for a well designed space, minimizing the clutter and beautifully complimenting the pieces you bring in.
