PROJECT PHASES

Our projects progress through six major phases: onboarding, schematic design, design development, processing, installation, and customer service.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
We begin with an in-depth client intake to understand you and your vision, set budgets, and begin the relationship with your builder and architect to align expectations. We will then craft layout options, curate inspiration, and source material concepts, culminating in a refined conceptual presentation that brings your vision to life with clarity and intention.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN
We develop initial concepts, refine layouts, and select architectural details, finishes, and materials, providing renderings to bring your home’s vision to life.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
Our team finalizes selections, creates full-scope CAD drawings, and coordinates vendor bids, ensuring every design detail is tailored to your lifestyle.

PROCESSING
We oversee site visits, collaborate with tradesmen, and manage installations, transforming your space from structural framing to beautifully finished interiors.

INSTALLATION
Custom furniture, lighting, and art are meticulously installed with our team managing every detail to ensure a seamless, hands-off experience for you.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
As you settle into your home, we remain available for any final touches, offering guidance on preserving and maintaining your furnishings and managing any issues that may arise.

CLIENT EXPERIENCE

Designing your home is about more than aesthetics—it’s about creating a space reflective of your lifestyle, values, and how you want to live. At Studio Thomas, we take the time to understand you, ensuring every detail feels intentional and personal.

Our process begins with a design charrette, a collaborative session where we refine your vision and establish the foundation for your home. As we guide you through each design phase, we present curated selections of furnishings, lighting, and materials, making the process seamless and inspiring.

From interior architecture to custom furniture, we work closely with your architect and builder to craft a home that is not only timeless but distinctly yours—all while simplifying the journey so you can enjoy the experience.

OUR APPROACH TO DESIGN

After more than a decade in the luxury interior design space, Kristen Thomas crafted a unique process in designing environments for clients and instilled this approach into her design team. We refer to this philosophy as The Art of Meaningful Living. This philosophy is built upon three unique pillars: The Hand, The Eye, and The Heart.

We know great design goes beyond beautiful aesthetics; it’s about creating luxurious spaces that enhance wellbeing, reflect the individuality of our client, and ultimately stand the test of time.

III PILLARS

PRINCIPLES
The hand: This represents what design is built upon; it’s the study of what works and why. It’s a metaphor for the foundational elements of design, ones that the untrained eye might overlook, but an expert will recognize immediately. Design isn’t just instinct; it’s instinct that’s been refined through rigorous study of and experience using tried and true principles.

PERSPECTIVE
The eye: This is an artistic perspective. It’s the way we see the world and how that interpretation shapes the way we create designs. It's a balanced blend of informed and instinctive, a practiced way of observing colour, art, architecture, light, and culture with intention, and learning how to weave these details into our designs.

EMOTION
The heart: This is where emotional design comes into play, adding depth and soul to the environment. This is where our design plans shift from how your home looks to how it feelsTo accomplish this, we consider every detail, colour, lighting, materialism, and how to engage the five senses. We intentionally layer these elements to shape the overall mood of your home.

VII LAYERS

Studio Thomas's seven layers of design are the foundation, materialism, lighting, furnishings, unique finds, artwork, and lifestyle pieces. These layers are our building blocks as a project progresses, and each layer adds a different type of depth, speaking to who will be living in the space and adding originality. Combined, they create the essence and fullness of the room, touching on our III design pillars: The Hand, The Eye, and The Heart.

VI ELEMENTS

Our six elements of design are stone, wood, metal, glass, texture, and life (plants). These are key elements in each environment we design, and when one is missing a space feels imbalanced. Tension is a major component in our design process - old and new, smooth and textured, edgy and cozy, masculine and feminine. This is what we believe keeps our design eye and our projects fresh, innovative, and creative while staying timeless, classic, and comfortable.
