Martha Stewart recently featured our work on No. 026, a Tudor-style home with Gothic character. The creatives at Studio Thomas first wanted to honor the home’s history, while also creating spaces of quiet luxury that are connected to its past. This article explored the idea that even the most functional spaces, like the bathroom, can be designed to feel like a sanctuary.

“For Denver-based interior designer Kristen Thomas of Studio Thomas, honoring the original architecture of this historic Tudor home was paramount.”

“The Juliet tub feels like a sculptural moment," she says. "Set against the backdrop of those original leaded glass windows, it's a perfect expression of old meets new." With the addition of live brass plumbing that will patina with age, "even the modern additions feel storied and rooted in time,” she adds.”

The goal for the master bath was seamless cohesion, drawing on simplicity and allowing the details to stand out. The plastered walls, blending with the home’s cream tones, and the countertops have a Taj Mahal, providing understated elegance. Each detail was selected intentionally. The result was a space where simplicity amplifies the beauty of each carefully curated element.

While renovating this primary bathroom, we chose to lean into a modern Tudor style to preserve the character of the home, while also introducing moments of refinement. During the design process, the creatives at Studio Thomas chose to incorporate custom mirrors, designed to be taller and more narrow than most, drawing the eye upward. We also included slimmer frames for a modern aesthetic just above the backsplash, giving the illusion that the mirrors lean forward, adding depth and dimension.
