THE ART OF MEANINGFUL LIVING: AT HOME WITH NO. 022

No. 022 Breakfast Nook

Studio Thomas’ philosophy centers around creating unique and personalized environments for our clients, designed specifically around their lifestyle and individuality. We love to learn about their personal style and where they find inspiration. For No. 022, that meant designing a “forever home,” where traditional warmth would harmonize with modern vibrancy. This stunning new build blends clean architectural lines with tried and true design principles, layered with collected antiques and unexpected, playful pieces that reflect the family’s personality. Wellness and connection were at the forefront of this design, from a home-centered great room to a spacious backyard intended for long summer evenings.

In our Art of Meaningful Living Q&A interview series, we share some of the ways our clients enjoy their homes, along with their favorite sources of inspiration for living well.

Q. What are three words to describe how you feel in your home?

A. “Joy, Peace, Gratitude. I feel like our home was created to bring our family a sense of peace and contentment, and I feel so joyful in my home. This was truly a passion project for us, and I feel deep gratitude that we were able to do this, and grateful for the whole team who brought this all together.”

Q. What are some of your favorite ways to spend time in your home?

A. “This is going to be our first full summer in our new home, so I’m really looking forward to having our friends and family over and spending time outside. It feels like a million miles away from the city; it’s so peaceful here, and Studio Thomas really designed the home to fit in with the surroundings. So far, we’ve been enjoying the indoors, but since it hasn’t been a year yet, I am still exploring all of the rooms in our home and taking in each one. I know this home will continue to evolve for our family. I am still learning about what feeling each room can bring. I can’t wait to enjoy every space.

Q. What are some of your favorite ways to set the mood and create ambiance in your home?

A. “I like to light candles, and my favorite right now is by Nest called Pistachio and Wild Fig that smells like pistachio and chocolate. It's the richest,  yummiest scent that fits in so well with our home. I like to have music on the speakers - my favorite is the contemporary country station, “The Highway” on Sirius. It reminds me of my dad and I listening to country music on road trips when I was growing up. My husband really loves sitting outside with the Dave Matthews Band on the speakers - you guys created the perfect place to sit outside and be comfortable. I love how your team styled our home and handed it over to us, and I want to treasure it that way. I am trying to keep it just the same.”

Q. Who are your style icons? Are there any famous people or influencers who inform your personal style?

A. “I like to pay homage to designers who are putting their own blood, sweat, and tears into their brand. I am drawn toward designers who are hustlers, who are really passionate. I'm so inspired by Kristen Thomas, who is bold, authentic, and fearless. I love her ability to have a vision and go after it. Karmen, the owner of Aline Boutique, is also really inspiring to me. She truly wants to really empower women. This is predominantly where I shop because I have a stylist there who really knows me and what I like. I also really like Victoria Beckham; she has a very iconic, classic style - she is who she is. Other designers I like are Jonahan Simkhai, Alice + Olivia, and Christy Lynn.

Q. What are some things you can’t live without?

A. “For me, 100% is movement. The gift of movement that my body gives me is something that I don’t take for granted. I go to a gym called Compass Fitness, and I like their mix of classes - trampoline class, weights, and cardio. I just really like to feel strong. We also have an infrared sauna, which I try to do several days a week. What really adds so much to my life every day is girlfriend time. Having a connection with my girlfriends is a non-negotiable for me. I thrive on girlfriend time! I also love playing tennis; I’ve played throughout my life. I love to play just for the joy of it. It is part of me, and I always want to keep it in my life; it's so meaningful to me. Now my son loves it too. And I do love a chai latte with oatmilk in the winter for a little treat!”

Q. Where are some of your favorite places in Colorado?

A. “It’s important for me to have weekend time with my son and my husband. We love to go to Osteria Alberico.  It has more of a neighborhood feel and has become our new spot. In Cherry Creek, we love going to Cherry Creek Grill for a tried and true place. I also love Le Bilboquet and Le Coloniel, and for sushi we like Matsuhisa and Sushi Den.”

Q. One of our favorite ways to personalize our clients’ homes is to incorporate design details that honor your family’s lifestyle and memories. Can you share some of the ways our design team added meaningful design elements in your home to honor your family’s story?

A. “Studio Thomas truly saw us for who we are and designed our home just for us - there are many meaningful design elements in our home. One favorite is the gallery wall with all our family photos we’ve had taken over the years on our trips to Hawaii. Hawaii is a very special spot for our family; it's the one place we can really relax and decompress. It's our happy place for sure!

Another way your design team personalized our home for our family is the special pieces you found for us in Roundtop, Texas. The antiques mixed in with all the new furniture added a lot of character to our home. Since we were lucky enough to work with Kristen in the past, we had some beautiful pieces we brought to this home from our previous home.”

Q. How does your home reflect your personal style?

A. “As we were working together, the designers were really paying attention to me at our meetings at the studio and were very tuned in to how I dressed, which brought inspiration to the design. They selected merlot light fixtures inspired by a handbag that I brought to a previous meeting, and I loved that! I choose my wardrobe with timeless and classic pieces that I fall in love with one item at a time, which now feels like my home. My friends are coming into our home, saying, “This home really looks like you!” It makes me so happy to hear that.”

Q. Are there any places you’ve traveled that have had a big influence on you and your lifestyle?

A. “Two summers ago, we took a family trip to Europe, and we went to Wimbledon. It was so iconic, I started crying! My son really connected to London; he’s an old soul. He just soaked in all of the history; he just loved it! We loved Paris too, seeing the Eiffel Tower from a little boat on the Seine, and we did family photos in France. Europe was very special for us, and we can’t wait to go back this summer when we’ll be traveling to Italy.”
